Art Style

« Back to Glossary Index

An Art Style is what makes an artist’s work unique. It includes their choice of medium, color, and composition. Styles reflect the culture and time they were created in. Knowing about art styles helps collectors and viewers understand different artistic visions.

Think of it like this: an art style is the consistent “look and feel” that shows up in an artist’s work, or even in a whole group of artists who share ideas during a certain time. It’s how they choose to use their brushstrokes, how they play with light and shadow, or the kind of things they like to paint. For instance, you can tell an Impressionism piece by its soft, dreamy feel, while Abstract Art might be all about shapes and colors that don’t look like anything real. Understanding these different “languages” of art helps you appreciate all kinds of fine art and find the artworks that truly speak to you in the big art market.
